Project Summary Indicators Means of Verification Risks/Assumptions
Goal Improve public trust on institutions that receive donation (in Korea). Annual survey result on donations = N/A
Outcome Certain % increase in public trust in institutions that receive donation. Actual numbers (Increase in number of people involved in donation? Increase in the amount of donated money?) = Hard to verify whether it’s due to the app or an external factor (should count only the app interaction?)
Outputs Institutions publish operation info, etc. / Donors engage in other activities too
Activities Promote app-exclusive features??

Now we’ll move on to the solution.

So, with the previously mentioned issues in mind, we propose an online platform named “Sparkshare”. The theme of our app is inspired by the proverb, ‘a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle’. Our vision is “Building a community of trust, where every donation leads to another action” and our mission is to “Create an online space to increase donations by enhancing transparency”.

#9

“Sparkshare” aims to achieve two of the SDG goals, namely number ten (reduced inequalities) and seventeen (partnerships for the goals). The main specifics of the goals are (1) reducing income inequalities, (2) promoting universal inclusions, (3) ensuring equal opportunities and ending discriminations, (4) encouraging development assistance and financial flows to where needed, (5) mobilizing financial resources for developing countries, and many more.

#10

So how does “Sparkshare” address the problems that other donation-related online platforms have? What is the business model?

We have prepared a short overview of the main services and features of our app. The bar at the bottom lets you navigate 4 main pages, and this on the left shows the home page. You can either fill in the search bar to look for the organization you’d like to support, or click the tags to selectively see the list of organizations that would match your interest. Those with more relevance would appear above those with less relevance, and you can check the average ratings and number of reviews with a glance. (Oh, and the ad banner helps us to maintain our app.)

Let’s suppose you want to learn more about this hypothetical organization, GrinGreen. When you click it, you are led to the page that offers you the overview and newsletters posted by the org itself and read the reviews left by other users who have made donations to it. From the overview page, you can learn about the org’s vision, mission statement, its operational size and location, financial report, link to their website, and many others. (It would vary slightly from an org to another org.) If you decide to make a donation, you can click on the button ‘share a spark’ (that’s our way of expressing it) or, if you’d like to be more prudent, you can bookmark them for later.

The reviews page offers more detailed information about the ratings and allows you to read the reviews posted by others. Let’s suppose you have ‘shared a spark’ with GrinGreen. Now you can write a review for sparkles, which is a name for in-app points. You can also earn sparkles by subscribing to their newsletter. On the newsletter page you can read their posts and write comments for each of them. If you want to skip having to access their page every single time they publish something, you can choose to receive newsletters via e-mail. If, on a very rare occasion, you find their contents inappropriate, like lacking a great deal of information or posting misinformation, you can report them to us. Also, in case you have an urgent matter, you can choose to directly reach the organization via the chatbot service provided by us.

On ‘my page’, you can check and revise your settings. To make our app more fun and interactive, we have prepared badges that unlock when you do certain things (and which you can show off to others), and sparkles, which you can use to purchase e-coupons or make a donation. Here, you have many options like enabling in-app notifications on your activities or get notified of campaigns and events held and promoted within the app. Also, you can receive an analysis of your activities, such as which types of organizations you donated to the most, what reviews you have written, how much donations you have made, and etc. A convenient feature of our app is that you can receive information that are tailored for you, including available tax refunds. Since you can track your records from here, you can choose to make a regular donation to where you have donated before with automated payments, or choose to do the opposite without having to navigate other pages.

As our vision is “building a community of trust”, there is a communities page that allows users to interact with one another. For example, if you want to start a local-scale campaign and you don’t know where to start, you can post your question to get some advice from other users, as well as recruit those who are interested. Also, you can read some important news from the organizations that you didn’t subscribe to. To encourage using the communities page, we give the users sparkles when they post or comment something.
